Calvin Mims and Dwight Smith of Fayetteville, North Carolina, are among the country's many avid art collectors. In this story courtesy of the nice people over at The Fayettevile Observer, they describe why it's important to preserve and share the stories told through particularly, the lens of African American artists. “Art defines a culture. Art is a footprint that a culture is measured by,” said Mims, who is executive director of Ellington-White Community Development Corp., which operates a gallery in downtown Fayetteville. Smith is an artist and professor at Fayetteville State University.
